Special Topic Session (STS)
An individual member of the ISI or one of its Sections can act as an organiser for a session dedicated to a special topic. He or she selects the topic and finds speakers who are interested in providing a comprehensive and coordinated presentation of it. The Session lasts for 135 minutes and there are generally 3 to 5 speakers. For some topics three speakers and a discussant may be the right choice, for others five speakers and no discussant may be more appropriate.
The contents of the presentations of the speakers should be coordinated in order to give the interested audience a reasonably complete overview of the current state of the topic and of open problems and directions for further work. Discussants offer a critical appraisal of the session and encourage the participation of the audience through questions and commentsThe Programme Coordinating Committee is now calling for proposals for organising STS’s from potential organisers. Proposals should be submitted by April 30, 2010 to a relevant member of the Programme Coordinating Committee or to the Chair of the Local Organising Committee, John Haslett (

The organisers of course welcome expressions of intent to organise such a session, but decisions will be based on completed proposal forms only.

He or she selects the topic and finds speakers who are interested in providing a comprehensive and coordinated presentation of it. The Session lasts for 135 minutes and there are generally 3 to 5 speakers. The Programme Coordinating Committee is still accepting proposals for STS’s from potential organisers. Proposals submitted after the extended closing date of May 30, 2010 will be accepted onto a wait list. Such late proposals will be considered only if space emerges in the programme as a result of withdrawals. They may be submitted through a relevant member of the Programme Coordinating Committee or directly through the Chair of the Local Programme Committee, John Haslett (

July Update
We were delighted with the quantity and quality of proposals received. This did mean however, that we have not been able to accept all proposals. We have also facilitated some proposers to merge proposals where there were synergies.
We have written to all session proposers giving them the committee’s decision. If you made a proposal and have not heard from us you should contact us without delay (preferably via the

email address).
We are now asking all session organisers to supply us some basic information by September 1:
-
full lists of speakers, including commentary on the diversity of the speakers, bearing in mind that the ISI discourages organisers organising more than one session and speakers speaking in more than one session.
-
explicit confirmation that all your speakers will expect to be in Dublin at ISI2011; and
-
titles for all papers.
By the end of September we expect to have defined the entire programme of Invited Paper and Special Topic sessions, and we will open the abstract submission page at the end of September.
We have set up a wait list for late and unsuccessful proposals. We expect some cancellations, and we will deal with these whenever they arise, sometimes by issuing a late invitation to an unsuccessful proposal or a late proposal.
Papers may also be submitted as contributed papers. For guidelines please go to the contributed papers page.
