ISI session organiser FAQs

What is the deadline for submission of abstracts?

There is a strict deadline for all abstracts (including contributed paper proposals) at 15 February 2011.   Abstracts will not be considered after that date.

For STS and IPS organisers and presenters we are requesting that they avoid the February period to allow us to concentrate on the work of contributed paper filtering and acceptance.  To achieve this we are asking for STS and IPS abstracts to be submitted during December 2010 or as soon as possible thereafter.

What is the length of a session?

All paper presentation sessions will be 135 minutes duration.

Is it necessary that a session have a formally nominated discussant?

It is usual for IPS and STS sessions to be organised with a discussant to lead discussion on the papers in that session.   However this is not a mandatory requirement.

Is there any requirement on people that when they submit an abstract they must have registered to attend the congress?

Registration is not a formal requirement at this stage. The submission form does require submitters to confirm that they will register. We ask you to confirm that your session presenters will in fact register. There will be drop-outs and the sooner we identify these the better. We do advise that you and your authors avail of the Early Bird Registration which closes on 31st May 2011.

Are invited speakers required to pay full fees?

There is no fee reduction associated with the status of Invited Speaker. An early bird (reduced fee) registration scheme is available to all prospective conference attendees ( see registration page).

What are the responsibilities of a session organiser?

The session organiser is responsible to organise the contents for a technical session. They have substantial autonomy in that they can determine the number of speakers - usually guided at three to five with a chairman and at least one discussant.    However some small number of sessions may be used as forum sessions where formal papers are not given but a group with similar interest are assembled to exchange views / work on a new problem area.  The session organiser must ensure abstracts, papers, and presentation materials meet acceptable standards and are submitted on time.

Can a session organiser chair the session?

Yes, but preferably not if he has another role (presenting) in the session.

Can a speaker present two papers at the ISI2011 congress?

We are sorry but No. It is our policy to discourage presentation of multiple papers.   The programme committee can not commit that it will schedule sessions to avoid conflicts. However a speaker may be a joint author on a second paper presented by different speaker.

A speaker may act as chairman for a session where he or she is not presenting a paper if no scheduling conflict arises.   However the organising committee can not commit that it will schedule all sessions to avoid conflicts.

Can I change my abstract after I have submitted it?

No - the site does not have any facility to reopen submitted abstracts for editing. The abstract submission facility provides good facilities for proofing and checking before final submission. Please finalise and carefully proof read abstracts (and all other documents) before final submission to conference websites. Once submitted the document is fixed.

In a small number of cases - where a serious error is discovered and needs to be corrected – we will accept the revised document and insert it as a replacement in the database of documents for publication. The original submission in the call for abstracts website will not be updated.
