ISI Director's New Year Message
A Happy New Year to all readers interested in ISI activities. 2011 promises to become an exciting year with many events on our agenda. First and above all, the ISI World Statistics Congress will take place in August 2011 in Dublin. The scientific programme is getting into shape and the social events, most of which our Irish colleagues are preparing, will definitely make the experience for participants and their accompanying persons a pleasant one.
At the beginning of March, ISI President Jef Teugels and a delegation from the ISI Permanent Office will attend a meeting of the National Organising Committee in Dublin for the fine-tuning of this major event. In September 2010, Jef Teugels and I already visited the superb and brand new Convention Centre Dublin. The ISI Executive Committee is preparing special events, such as a social gathering for young attendees, a reception for ISI elected members and a mixer for women statisticians. In addition, some lunch time events for heads of national statistical societies and national statistical offices are under preparation. We are convinced that all ingredients are there for a successful Congress. The 1st Information Bulletin of the ISI Dublin WSC was recently distributed to all ISI and Sections’ members. If you have not yet received it, you can download it from the ISI and Dublin WSC websites.
This is a flavour of the work underway for keeping the ISI a network worth joining by young and senior statisticians.
With my best regards,
Ada van Krimpen

ISI President's New Year Message
It is my pleasure to wish all of you a splendid 2011. Apart from good health and friendship from all the people who care about you, may 2011 offer you a bit of extra time and energy to spend on a project that you have been forced to postpone “until later”.
Allow me to ask your special attention for two important issues. One is the forthcoming World Statistics Congress (WSC) in Dublin, 21-26 August. We hope that many among you will take part in this meeting, even more that you will enjoy the inclusion of a number of traditional and new features. Let me mention: The organization of a Special Theme Day on Water, Quantity and Quality in which all ISI Sections have been collaborating, the activities for the young statisticians (among them a Satellite Meeting immediately preceding the WSC), the scientific programme with its widespread plethora of statistical topics, the excellent local arrangements, a carefully prepared slate of Short Courses, a vast list of administrative and social meetings, some for the first time. For more information, please go to the website http://www.isi2011.ie/content/ to find out more. In any case, you are all very welcome to enjoy this important gathering!
I count on your support for achieving the ISI objective to remain an active and relevant society.
With kind regards,
Jef Teugels
